By definition, a remanufactured engine is one remanufactured to the original blueprints and exact specifications for that engine, and it is tested to original equipment standards.
By definition, on a rebuilt engine, the repair is done up to the level of failure. Meaning that the engine is repaired up to the level of failure for which there was a need for rebuilding. But apart from that, components are left intact, meaning original parts that are still operational, but may be near the end of their life expectancy, will/may be reinstalled/left in place in the engine. The testing procedure of a rebuilt jet ski motor depends upon the individual rebuilder doing the job.
There is a big difference between a rebuilt jet ski motor and a remanufactured jet ski motor (or reman motor)- one is done in a factory with serious machines and a multilevel quality control system, the other is a guy building an engine on a bench. Several shops appear to do good work and some may even use all new parts, but the product is not truly comparable. The real difference comes with customer service and the warranty experience.
There is a big difference when dealing with a company that has 20 motors of every variety already done and in a box and ready to ship, and someone you need to send your motor to and then wait for the work to be done and then wait to get it back. That timeline might be acceptable for your current need, maybe you have all winter to work on this before the season starts again, but what if you need warranty service? What if you need the engine now?
If they have the engine on the shelf, it’s an easy to fix your problem and an exchange will be made and you will receive a different “new” engine. But what if you have to send it back again and the company is backed up on new orders? What if the winter is over and you are in the middle of your riding season?
I am in no way bashing anyone. My comments are simply a clarification of reman (available from SBT or Seadoo direct) or rebuilt (available from lots of places, Full Bore is one of the good ones).
